經歷
1984~8 應邀於中山大學任客座教授，籌設海洋地質研究所、並擔任所長；共同主持首度中美法聯合南印度洋探勘。以中山大學教授身份參加於巴黎聯合國教科文組織總部召開之會議，發表論文；獲中山學術獎助。應邀加入聯合國國際教科文組織，海洋碳化學工作小組；國際海洋科學委員會，二氧化碳小組；應邀參加國建會，聯合國教科文組織海洋標準審訂小組會議，國際海洋技術學會籌備會議，及國際海洋委員會議。
1989~91 任中山大學海洋科學學院院長，海洋科學研究中心主任，漁業推廣委員會主任委員，及擔任中華民國海洋科技學會理事長，以及國際地圈生物圈計畫中華民國委員會主任委員。邀請蘇聯科學院研究船維諾號來訪，此乃四十餘年來蘇聯船隻首度進入我國港口。擔任海洋科技會刊發行人及主編。
1992~6 應邀擔任全球海洋通量聯合研究(JGOFS)指導委員及執行委員，世界洋流實驗規劃委員，主持全球海洋通量及海陸交互作用聯合邊緣海小組。擔任Oceanography
J. editor，Marine Chemistry associate editor，J. Chinese Oceanology and
Limnology，TAO，特有生物研究，及科學月刊編輯委員，並獲國科會傑出研究獎。1996獲推薦參與海洋大學校長遴選，進入前三名。 1997
獲日本琵琶湖生態獎 (Biwako Prize for Ecology；獎金日幣500萬元)。
1998-2003 應邀擔任IGBP/IHDP/WCRP Joint Global Carbon Project科學指導委員會委員，JGOFS
North Pacific Synthesis Group委員，擔任Oceanography J. editor，Acta Oceanographica
Taiwanic associate editor, J. Marine Systems 編輯委員，Deep-Sea Research II
guest editor。 名列Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in Science and Engineering,

2001獲推薦參與東華大學校長遴選，票選第二名。 歷年來主持國科會，原委會，農委會，環保局，環保署，墾丁國家公園，其他公、民營機構；美國能源部，國科會，海軍；法國國科會及南極特別行政區多項科研計畫。審核十餘中、美、以色列政府機關及國際組織研究計畫，為數十國際知名科技雜誌及出版社審核稿件。並於美國〝科學〞，英國〝自然〞等國際著名雜誌上發表論文，已達一百五十餘篇。國內外次要科技雜誌發表論文及專著二百五十餘篇，另有摘要一百五十餘篇，其他論著三百八十餘篇。
